Whitby GeoStories

This Halloween, something truly special is coming to Whitby. A brand new, Whitby-based audio drama podcast with a twist will be available for just £5 from your app store.

In the Footsteps of Bram Stoker

The story, ‘In the Footsteps of Bram Stoker’, imagines the strange events that could have inspired Bram Stoker’s Dracula. With a few creative twists thrown in, this is a very special experience that can be enjoyed in the town, or from the comfort of your own home.

GPS technology triggers the story as listeners wander through town. Accompanying the story are augmented reality images. These are accessed through any smartphone or tablet. You’ll see the cursed sailing ship The Demeter, bats, and lots more to help bring the tale to life.

In the two-part story, you’ll get to hear and see many characters exploring the town’s beautiful landmarks. It brings to life the voices and stories of people Bram Stoker may have encountered in Whitby in the 1800s.

“Whitby provides a fabulous backdrop for our story, and the fact that Bram Stoker actually stayed there was an inspiration.” says Amanda Pearce, Director of Diva Creative Ltd who are producing GeoStories.

“Visitors to Whitby can actually hear the story unfold as they explore the town, in the same way that Bram Stoker might have himself when he was here over 120 years ago. Halloween provides the best opportunity to launch it as all things unexplained and unexpected are revealed.”

This is just the first story in the works for the GeoStories project. We can’t wait to see what other incredible tales they have to tell. Make sure you follow the GeoStories Facebook page @HelloGeoStories for more updates, and to download your copy of this exciting audio drama podcast.
