There are lots of really cool things to do in Whitby that you’re sure to want to try during your time here. Our town is bursting with exciting activities and events throughout the year. We’re so lucky to have so many different things to do in and around town that appeal to all sorts of different interests.

Go on a ghost walk
Setting out on a ghost walk is a very cool thing to do while you’re in Whitby. Tour guides share lots of stories of the supernatural and tell you about the darker side of our town’s history. Are you brave enough to risk a ghostly encounter?
Brewery or gin tour
Whitby is very lucky to have our own brewery and gin distillery in town. The Whitby Brewery and Whitby Gin both offer tours of their facilities to show you how they make the beers and spirits.
Fossil hunting
Our coastline is full of fossils, if you know where to look. There are some fantastic fossil hunting tours you can book onto during your stay in Whitby – but you’ll have to get up early for them!

Whitby Goth Weekend
Some of our biggest and most unusual events are the Whitby Goth Weekends that take place in town throughout the year. The town draws huge crowds for what has become one of the world’s premier Goth events.

Dracula Experience
The Dracula Experience is a really cool thing to do in Whitby. Our town is forever connected to Bram Stoker’s novel, and the tour is always popular with visitors. Do you dare?
Escape room
The first of its kind in town is Eskape Whitby, a live escape room experience. There are two immersive rooms that you can test yourself against: The Night Watchman and The Curious Case.

Learn about jet
Our town is known all over the world for the jet that can be found on our shores. Whitby jewellers transform it into beautiful pieces of wearable art! Make sure you visit their independent jewellery shops in town – you might even see the jewellers at work on new pieces.
If you want to learn more about the history of jet, make sure you visit the Museum of Whitby Jet during your stay. It has an unrivalled collection of antique Whitby jet, as well as the largest specimen of rough jet in the world!
Steampunk weekend
As well as Goths, Whitby plays host to Steampunkers throughout the year. Whitby Steampunk Weekends are incredible, and the outfits people design are really wondrous to behold. Science fiction and fantasy meets 19th century technology and aesthetics – it’s really not to be missed!
See dinosaurs
What could be cooler than coming face to face with a dinosaur? Well, okay, not a live one, but the fossilised remains of dinosaurs mounted on the wall at the Whitby Museum are absolutely incredible! Make sure you put a visit to the museum on your list.
